About Price Doctor and How it Came About

Price Doctor is an amalgamation of a need on the DIY Doctor website to answer questions about the costs of projects, and an early pricing website QSurveyit. Starting this journey back in 2010 there is a wealth of experience and expertise which has gone into making Price Doctor the most innovative and highest rated solution available today.

The Early Days:

Initially the aim was to help homeowners who needs to understand what was involved with their project, however a solution for simplifying the estimating and quoting process that builders have to go through was clearly needed. It has always been a lengthy process for builders with no guarantee that they would actually win the job that they were quoting for.

A typical detailed quote for a fairly large job such as an extension can sometimes take several days to put together as the plans need to be looked over in detail.

From this, a materials list is then put together and then prices need to be gathered to compile a total price. In some cases, this can be fairly straight forward, but if specialist materials are needed this can take some time and effort to source.

Additionally, if structural members such as steels are also required then a structural engineer is required to calculate the size and type of steels needed, all adding time and expense to the process.

Initially the idea was to produce an online application that would allow builders and homeowners to speed up the above process, allowing them to produce quick and accurate quotes without the additional requirement of either learning how to use the complex software-based solutions.

As an application, Price Doctor provides not only a great solution for builders to produce estimates and quotes but also for their customers to check and validate those quotes to ensure they are accurate. Through this process, everything is totally transparent and a trust-based relationship between both parties can be firmly established which should go a long way in ensuring that everyone gets what they want – The builder gets paid a decent wage for his work and the homeowner gets a great job for their money!

As an application, Price Doctor has come a long way since the early days. We are constantly working on updating and improving the system with the ultimate goal of providing the best and most trusted quoting and pricing platform on the web for both builders and homeowners alike.

Pricing Service:

The software we have created is some of the easiest to use, while still able to create accurate and details quotations, but some of our customers are too busy to use it, or they would like to get the opinion of a professional Quantity Surveyor (QS).

When we saw this, the pricing service was born. This allows builders and homeowners to send us the plans which we will price up and then we put all the information back into their accounts.

This saves time, allows builders to get on with their “day job” and leave the pricing work to trusted professionals. They get the best of both worlds, as the work has been priced up, but it can be updated quickly and easily in their Price Doctor account. Or we are happy to make the changes if you prefer.

We are always innovating with this service; we are the first pricing service provider to allow the pricing of smaller (single trade jobs). We are the first provider to allow customers to validate what has been priced, adding an extra level of confidence.

Job Management:

A price or quote in isolation is one thing, but the customer needs to be looked after, with the relationship managed. The project needs to be scheduled, changes recorded and communicated to the customer, and invoices raised and tracked.

This is where the need for the Price Doctor job management solution came from. There is software available anywhere you have an internet connection, or you can download the app, which allows builders to manage projects all the way from initial enquiry to invoice.

We have software which helps homeowners too. One they have a price, they can use Price Doctor to make an objective decision about which contractor they should choose to work with for their project. It also helps them to manage the changes, such as extras and deductions, and to ensure invoices are paid on time in line with their contractual obligations.

The App:

There is an app available to download from the App Store and Play Store. This is fully features and has all the same features and functionality as is available on the Price Doctor website.
